Events in the main arena got underway with the crowning of the 2008 Gala Queen, 10 year old Alice McAvoy who received her crown from the retiring Queen, Amy Frost.

Jez Avery the UK’s top motorbike and mountain bike stunt rider was the main attraction and entertained the crowd in his unique style with a fantastic show that thrilled the audience.  A Bird of Prey Display by Ben Potter drew gasps from the audience as  Vultures, Owls and Eagles swooped over the arena. Traditional entertainment was also provided by La Classiques Majorettes, Bedale Brass Band and New Park Maypole Dancers.

This was the biggest gala in the events history and over 50 stands a mixture of trade and charity attended. There was fairground rides, animal displays, and entertainment galore even an Army assault course and climbing tower .

Everything was preceded by the parade which was a huge success with more participants than ever before, floats, vintage vehicles, Diggers, buses and much more.

Planning has already started for the next event on Monday 4th May 2009
